Four/Nine

December 3rd was the official week of the start of Term 2, month 4 of a 9 month program.

For those of you that catching up or just tuning in for the first time, I haven't posted in a while, but a lot has happened.

Big NYSUM Events

In the month of November we had a huge event known as Operation Drumstick, a turkey dinner event where we feed over 5,000 people apart of the homeless or low income communities. And to be quite frank, it was exhausting. Now, It wasn't the people we were serving that were the root of my exhaustion, but rather the teams of people that came across the country to serve along side us. The same thing happened in the month of December for our Christmas outreach known as Christmas Compassion, a children's ministry involving a toy drive, skits, and carols.

Birthday Weekend

At the start of January, My sister joined me for an amazing birthday extravaganza celebration in the city and it was a little strange to play tour guide when I haven't even been here 6 months. It was really good. But I have to admit that it was a bit of a reality check for me that this is what it's like to have a sister who is your best friend and you're not always going to live with each other. being adults means making time for one another.

Struggles

On top of coming back from Christmas break, there was some trouble getting back into the swing of things. Everyone seemed on edge about being back and I was just happy to be in a place that felt more like home. It was not too hot the first week and a half back. there was laziness and fighting and overall a lack of passion. But we knew that was the enemy and he wasn't gonna take us out. Only he did.

He took out one of our girls. She has made the decision to go home as she no longer feel that this is where she needs to be. Se is saying all the right things, and putting on a good show, but I can see what's really going on and it breaks my heart. This is where she needs and wants to be, but going home is easier than staying. We are going to miss her to no end. She leaves tomorrow.

"ONE NIGHT"

Last weekend, we hosted a concert and It was super chill. A couple of the artists from the "Die Daily Movement" came up and did more than just preform on Friday night. They sat and talked with us one on one, they shared their hearts and let us in on some cool opportunities, they sat in front of us as a panel and let us talk their ears of about their music, testimonies, and relationships with God, and we even went to lunch together. I experienced true community for the first time in a long time.

Soon it will be February Aside from all the sappy stuff, we have a lot coming up in the next few months and pretty soon we'll be outta here. But I'm not going to look at it that way. For the next 4 months, I am going to wake up every morning thankful for another opportunity and another day in New York City.

Peace,

Rubes
